In this article, we'll cover the two following topics;

  1. What is 2FA?

  2. How to set up 2FA on your own user card

What is Two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA as we like to call it, means that you need both a personal password, and an authentication code received on your mobile device, to be able to log into SameSystem. This additional layer provides greater security to access your profile.

For some companies, there is a requirement to use 2FA. If you are unsure about the rules of your company, reach out to your administrator or nearest leader. You are most welcome to use 2FA regardless of the rules, if you feel more comfortable doing so.

How to activate 2FA

To activate 2FA, navigate to the main menu on the left side of the screen and press Department - Employee - Edit own data, or click here to go directly.

Press the tab on the left side of your user card called Security, followed by the button called Enable 2FA:

From here, you are presented with two options.

  1. Receive a code using a separate app, called "Google Authenticator"
    or

  2. Receive a code by SMS

When using the Google Authenticator-app, you need to do the following:

  1. Download the Google Authenticator-app

  2. Either scan the QR code presented on the web-screen with your mobile device, or manually enter the code presented on your web-screen into the Authenticator-app.

  3. The Authenticator-app will then generate a 6 digit code, to authenticate the connection between your mobile device and the system. Enter the code, and press Verify. Don't worry - you only have to do this once! 🙉

The next time you log into SameSystem, we will ask for your 2FA code after you've entered your personal password. Simply open your authenticator-app, and the code will generate automatically 🎉

When choosing to receive a code by text/SMS, you will receive an SMS code each time you want to log in.

  1. Press Use SMS authentication.

  2. Click on the button called Send SMS with code. You should now receive a code via SMS within the next few minutes.

  3. Enter the code into the system, and press Verify. Don't worry - you only have to do this once! 🙉

The next time you log into SameSystem, we will ask for your 2FA code after you've entered your personal password. An SMS should arrive on your mobile device shortly 🎉

Solution

The phone number shown when setting up 2FA via SMS, is wrong.

Head over to the tab called General, to change your phone number.

I've waited forever, I'm not receiving any SMS code when setting up 2FA!

Refresh the page, and press Verify to send the code again.

I have already set up 2FA, but I'm suddenly not receiving any SMS when I try to log in.

  • Have you changed your mobile number since the last time you logged in? You might need to verify 2FA again.

  • Are you located in an area that might not have any service? Please try to move to an area you know has mobile service.

I don't want 2FA anymore

Reach out to your administrator, and ask them to turn off 2FA on your profile. If you are unsure of who your admins are, ask your nearest leader.

The code from my Google-authenticator app is not approved when I try to log in.

Close the app, and reopen it so a new code can generate and try again.
